What's the importance of flowing water to hummingbirds (and likely other species)? And what about perches at birth baths/ bird fountains.
When I started reading how to attract hummingbirds a few years ago I learned that traditional bird baths are not their cup of tea. Time and time again I have seen hummingbirds respond immediately to the provision of flowing water, such as a waterfall. One reason is for the sake of washing the sticky nectar off. But hey, other species drink from the waterfall as well...and why not? Wouldn't we all prefer flowing water over still, stagnant water?
