Manxman Mark Higgins was chasing an amazing fourth BRC title, but as the year burst into life it was 26-year-old Guy Wilks who took an emphatic victory on the opening round, his first International Rally win.

Higgins and co-driver Rory Kennedy made it honours even on the Jim Clark International Rally, setting up a finely-balanced championship tussle which lasted for the entire year.

The Subaru Impreza of Higgins and the Mitsubishi Evo 9 of Wilks and co-driver Phil Pugh dominated this intense season, but exceptional performances from the likes of Gwyndaf Evans, Darren Gass, Wyn Humphreys, Robert Swann, David Higgins and more ensured there was plenty of action and drama on every stage.

Heading into the final confrontation - the double-header at Wales Rally GB - Higgins enjoyed a 16-point lead over Wilks.
