Описание: A silent journey from raw log to a finished kuksa. No talk, just the rhythm of steel on grain, forest light, and patient hands. This is slow craft in its natural home—green wood, hand tools, and a cup made to hold warmth and quiet.

What you’ll see

Selecting a suitable log and reading the grain

Rough shaping with axe and sloyd knife

Hollowing with a hook knife/gouge

Refining the rim and thinning the walls for balance

Sanding from coarse to fine grits

Water test, gentle heat, and food-safe oil

Beeswax finish for a soft, matte glow

Final touch in the forest—From Forest to Cup

Why a kuksa?
A kuksa is more than a wooden cup. It’s a pocket of stillness, carved from living material, meant to be used daily and seasoned by time. Every shaving tells where patience met intention.

Tools & Materials

Small axe/hatchet, sloyd knife, hook knife, gouge

Sandpaper: 80, 120, 220, 320/400

Food-safe oil: raw linseed, tung, or walnut oil*

Beeswax block, lint-free cloth, water for testing

*Note: Walnut oil may not be suitable for people with nut allergies.

Wood choices (green wood is ideal)
Birch, alder, beech, or other tight-grained hardwoods. Avoid cracked, punky, or highly resinous stock.

Care & Maintenance

Rinse with lukewarm water; dry immediately

Never soak or put in dishwasher

Re-oil when the surface looks dry (light coat, wipe off excess)

Hot drinks will build a natural patina—enjoy it

Safety
Sharp tools, slow movements. Keep fingers behind the edge, cut away from the body, and work with steady stance. Use a carving glove/thumb guard if needed. Have a simple first-aid kit nearby.
