Pakistan’s trade gap with its nine neighboring countries widened by 29.42% in FY25, reaching $12.297 billion, up from $9.502 billion the previous year.
Key Highlights:
🇨🇳 Imports from China surged 20.79% to $16.3B, despite exports to China falling by 8.6%
🇮🇳 Imports from India increased, while exports remained minimal
🇦🇫 Exports to Afghanistan jumped 38.68%, led by sugar shipments
🇧🇩 Exports to Bangladesh grew 19.08%, aided by rice trade after political shifts
🇱🇰 Exports to Sri Lanka declined 4.14% amid its ongoing economic crisis
Overall exports rose just 1.49%, totaling $4.4B, while imports from the region spiked 20.66% to $16.7B.
The trade imbalance underscores Pakistan’s rising dependence on imports, particularly from China, and continued pressure on exports due to regional constraints and policy hurdles.
