Romans 12:12 tells us about rejoicing in hope, perservering in affliction and being devoted to prayer. We, christians need to remember al of these, now first what's the context behind this verse? Paul is telling us how to truly love others. We need to remember that love is the greatest virtue, so how do we keep it true with the word of God? Paul tells us:
1. Rejoice in hope, this means that we need to always trust the one who created us and loves us. The christian hope is that God will come down once again to judge us all and take us with Him. We need to rejoice in that hope and last in the faith, the faith in Jesus Christ. He is the one who saved us and has a plan for us all (Jeremiah 29:11).
2. Perservere in affliction, Jesus told us many times to last in faith even though they will hate us (Matthew 24:13, John 15:18-19, Matthew 5:10, Revelation 2:10, Matthew 10:32-33). We need to always last in Jesus Christ of Nazareth, in His love and commandments even in hard and difficult times.
3. Be devoted to prayer. This is one of the most important things for christians to do. Prayer is talking with the Lord, not just a checkbox that we should fulfill everyday to be saved. We can't have robotic prayers, auto generated all the time. Before every prayer we need to pray: "Holy Spirit, please strengthen me and give me the words, so that this prayer can truly be good". Yes if we say the "Our Father" nothing happens but if we repeatedly just don't pray anything else just that not even thinking about what we are saying than do we truly love Him? Also we have to pray in faith, God said to us: "Believe and it will be given" yes we have to ask it in Jesus name but also believe that this will happen. Some may say: "I'm testing the Lord then", no! We are doing what God told us (2 Kings 2:13-14, Matthew 8:13, Matthew 21:22). So pray out of the heart and the Spirit and with faith in Christ.
