How to check or add transmission fluid on 2020-2024 GM Truck or SUV Duramax 3.0l

3. A rag

Instructions:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface.
2. Set the parking brake.
3. Shift the transmission into Park.
4. Connect the scan tool to the OBD-II port.
5. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine.
6. Use the scan tool to read the transmission fluid temperature.
7. Once the transmission fluid temperature has reached 131-149 degrees Fahrenheit, you can check the fluid level.
8. To check the fluid level, remove the transmission fluid inspection plug. The inspection plug is located just above the pan on the tail end driver side.
9. If the transmission fluid flows out of the inspection plug, the fluid level is correct. If no fluid flows out of the inspection plug, the fluid level is low.
10. To add transmission fluid, insert a funnel into the inspection plug hole and add fluid until it begins to flow out of the hole.
11. Once the transmission fluid begins to flow out of the inspection plug hole, replace the inspection plug.
12. Close the hood of your vehicle and disconnect the scan tool.

Tips:

It is best to check the transmission fluid when the engine is warm.
Be careful not to overfill the transmission.
If you are unsure of how much transmission fluid to add, consult your owner's manual.

Additional Information:

The 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission has no dipstick because it is a sealed unit. The transmission fluid level is checked and adjusted using the inspection plug on the bottom of the transmission pan.
