Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation has achieved another milestone in its over a half century of providing the transport needs of Filipinos. The achievement is all the more significant because it indicates Mitsubishi’s commitment to continue participating in the development of the local auto industry, not only about selling vehicles but producing them locally.
Mitsubishi has been making its presence felt in the Philippines a little over half a century now. Distributing cars, vans, utility vehicles . . . and later on assembling some of the models and types of vehicles it sells in the country.
Through the ups and downs of the local automotive industry, Mitsubishi has remained in the forefront . . . and continuing to assemble and distribute vehicles in the country. Over the years it has assembled such popular vehicles as the Dodge Colt, Minica, Lancer, Cimarron and Mitsubishi trucks andvans for the domestic market.
This year Mitsubishi has reached a new milestone in vehicle production in the Philippines . . . After moving from its production facility in Cainta to Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Mitsubishi has now assembled its 600,000th vehicle.
To commemorate the event, Mitsubishi held a program led by MMPC president Yoshiaki Kato at its Sta. Rosa vehicle assembly plant with the Mayor of Sta. Rosa, Arlene B. Arcillas as among the guests of honor.
Mitsubishi has been assembling Adventure models and L300 vans at its Sta. Rosa facilities . . . During the program, Mitsubishi president Kato revealed that Mitsubishi plans to increase its production capacity and add the Mirage to the lineup of production vehicles as part of initiatives to participate in government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy or CARS program.
Mitsubishi expects to benefit from the improving economy as well as in the growth of the local automotive assembly industry . . . Groundbreaking for the construction of a press shop facility that will help it expand production . . . It is projecting increases in the number of assembled vehicles and sales in the next few years.
During the commemoration of the 600,000th vehicle-produced milestone, Sta. Rosa Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas said she will continue to help support Mitsubishi’s plans to upgrade its facilities when she moves on to Congress where she will represent the first district of Sta. Rosa.
Mitsubishi is now awaiting the approval of the Board of Investments of its Certificate of Registration for the CARS program.
Many auto companies have chosen to focus more on distribution rather than local assembly of vehicles, thinking this is more profitable and cost effective. In deciding to continue with the assembly of some of the vehicles it sells in the country, Mitsubishi should be commended and have the support of local auto buyers. After all, local assembly means more jobs.
