In response to Gareth Porters speech about War being unjust Sir Malcolm Rifkind talks about wars fought that were justified. The Falklands was for example, where a foreign country invaded British citizens, who had their freedoms taken away and were forced to live under a foreign regime.
The 2nd World War needed to happen to defeat fascism. He asks the union not to vote for Tony Blair's war or some other politician's war but to vote for the instances where war has been a last resort after every other possible terms of peace-making had been made.
The Iraq war was unjust as it did not have the approval of the united nations security council however when it came to going to war over Suddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait the UN unanimously agreed as it was a small defensless country whose people had their liberties taken away.
MOTION: THIS HOUSE WOULD NOT FIGHT FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY
RESULT: MOTION DEFEATED
