Aulos Louvre Auloi Ancient Greek Roman Egyptian Music Instrument in Palmela

Описание: These reeds now are made of phragmites australis, I changed the reed material a year ago and since then was not confident with the sound until now. I did need to get used to the new material and the reeds made of phragmites need several months up to years to sound properly.
So hopefully with this video will come a new series of recordings within the next months.
Aulos or Auloi double pipes from antique Greece, an improvisation on a reconstruction of the Louvre Aulos found in Egypt probably dating from the Roman Hellenistic period, played by Max Brumberg.

The journey to learn to play and to make reeds and the Aulos began in 2017 when I met Callum Armstrong and he introduced me to the Auloi, I felt deeply touched by the sound.The Aulos are from the Greek antique and were used in rituals, theatre, therapy and amusement. The two pipes are tuned in a fourth to each other. The instrument itself is a reproduction of an instrument found in Egypt, exactly the same hole setting it must have sounded similar when people played it back then. Stefan Hagel did measured the instrument in the Louvre Museum and made it possible to do an exact reconstruction. Though the players were far more experienced playing in a tradition of an instrument being already played for about 2000ys in those days. Nowadays we are rediscovering this ancient instrument and its sounds and for me it is an amazing thing to be part of the people rediscovering the Aulos. I am happy to be amongst people like Callum Armstrong, Robin Howell, Stefan Hagel, Barnaby Brown, Marco Sciascia and many others to play and revive these instruments.
The breathing technique used is the very same like on the didgeridoo, circular breathing. Info about my instruments
Though sometimes referred to as a flute or double flute the aulos is a reed instrument.
