Singapore Food Tour at a Hawker Centre on Old Airport Road Travel Food Video Transcript:
Well good afternoon from Singapore. So we're going to go have lunch. We are heading to a Hawker Centre which is in our neighborhood. Um, and yeah it should be fun.
Yeah, we finally settled on a place. We took a really good tour of the entire Hawker Centre (小贩中心 / 熟食中心) and we finally settled on somewhere to sit. I mean part of our consideration was actually just finding an empty table.
Okay, so our first dish is here at the table. And we are having Bee Hoon Goreng (Mie goreng).
So if you look a little closer at the plate it is like a vermicelli noodle. And this one looks like it is has been broken into small little pieces. We also have beansprouts, we've got an egg. Almost like an egg omelet. Like a scrambled egg that has been mixed in. Uh, what else?
It is a pretty generous portion too I have to say.
Yeah, it is pretty big. It is pretty big.
Some onions, cabbage and then it comes with some cucumbers. Yep.
So again spoon and fork that is how you eat here. That is how you do it in Singapore.
Okay, time for the next dish and this one is Kway Teow Goreng. Yeah. And the shop we went to is basically a noodle specialist. So he only does stir-fry noodles. Right.
So we're getting the second one of the most popular dishes that he sells. Yeah, how this differs is that you've got thick rice noodles here. Yeah, they're flat noodles.
Yeah, they're flat noodles. The ingredients are a little bit different. I'm noticing more peppers and tomatoes. I'm noticing what appears to be peas and of course there is beansprouts again. And egg.
And once again we asked for it to be super spicy and we asked for the supplement of an egg. So alright.
So in Singapore there is a very diverse population and that means you get an awesome selection of different cuisines. So you have Malay and Singaporean, you have Indian, you have Chinese, you have different kinds of fusions. You have just about anything you could ever want. Honestly, the hardest things about coming to a Hawker Center (小贩中心 / 熟食中心) or a Food Center in Singapore is like narrowing it down as to what you're going to order. I know. Because there is just options galore.
So there are two desserts that I really enjoy in hot climates. The first one is Cendol, the second is Kacang and today we are having some Ais Kacang.
Look at that. Basically shaved ice. Yeah. And the colors you see all around here they basically like pour a syrup over it to sweeten it.
And this one apparently Sam got the kiwi flavored one. Yeah, I was trying to order the cranberry but they didn't have it so kiwi was the second choice.
Yeah, so we're full, we're satisfied. Now it is time for price point. Um, right now one US dollar currently equals one dollar and forty cents in terms of Singapore dollars. Yeah. So I'll just go through each item. So the noodles were three fifty each with the egg supplement they came to four. The drinks of which we ordered three were one eighty each and dessert was two fifty. So in total we paid sixteen Singapore dollars which came to eleven US dollars total. So that is for two noodle dishes, three drinks and one shared dessert. So you can see that this is a very budget friendly meal.
We feasted like Kings and Queens and you know it was awesome. This is if you're in Singapore you definitely have to go to the Hawker Centres (小贩中心 / 熟食中心) and you can eat really confidently here because the government really does a good job regulates and inspects the food so there is absolutely no worries about food poisoning or anything like that. Just come to the Hawker Centres (小贩中心 / 熟食中心) eat confidently and order as much as you want. It is not going to cost you very much.
