Back in the ocean, after weeks of storms and murky water.
Water+air temperature suddenly dropped.
Fish start to migrate to the depths or southern latitudes.
The water was clear, far from the tip of the jetty . There was quite a bit of blackfish.
I got a nice size one on the first dip but it came off. It ripped.
I realized that the flopper of the speartip, that helps retain the catch was broken and eventually came off.

I had a spare tip on my float, but I used superglue to secure the tip to the shaft. SO I needed dry hands, pliers and possibly a flame.

I saw several large striped bass, mostly too large, over the legals size slot between 28 and 31 inches.
One swam from behind right in front of my face. It almost spooked me. I did not see it coming.

I was feeling ran down, it was challenging to hold my breath out there. I had very little sleep the past week. job in Philadelphia at 7 am. driving, night time assignments with morning deadlines, open bar events with too much drinking little physical activity, headache and dry throat.

SO in the water i was feeling a little chilly, I was extremely thirsty, and I did not bring a bottle of water and electrolytes on my float.

The flopper came competely off the spear tip. and the tip itself was dull and bent from hitting a rock.

I knew to catch a fish I had to take a good shot, not too far, and have the shaft go all the way through.
SO I managed to get a couple of blackfish. They ended up on the line.
I dropped the speargun and went back up for air and went to the bottom right away to get the fish with my hands rather than pulling the line that holds the flopperless shaft.

Minimum size blackfish about 16 inches.
The large ones that I see in the summer months not so much around. And all of them a lot more skittish. In the summer they have no fear, in the fall they act like they know they are being hunted, as season starts on Oct 15,
