The best time to repot is in early spring or summer — when the plant is actively growing. Repotting gives the roots more room to grow, refreshes the old, compacted soil, and improves drainage, airflow, and nutrient levels.
Start by tidying up the plant while it’s still in its pot. Remove any dead or damaged leaves and stems.Just like the foliage, the roots will benefit from a light trim. Tease them apart and let the old soil fall away.
Choose a quality mix from your local garden centre, and to improve it, add a little Horticultural Charcoal and Perlite.
Half fill the new pot and adjust the height of soil underneath so the top of the root ball sits about 2 cm below the rim.
Place the plant in the centre and fill in around the edges with mix, and gently press it down.
Add a little slow release fertiliser and water it all in.
Annie Saunders of GardensOnline shows you how in this short video.
