The government typically constitutes a pay commission every ten years to revise the salaries, allowances, and pensions of its employees in line with current inflation and economic conditions. Currently, the 7th Pay Commission is in effect, having been implemented in 2016, and there have been no major changes to the pay structure since then. The implementation of the 8th Pay Commission is expected to directly benefit approximately 50 lakh central government employees, including defense personnel, and about 65 lakh retired pensioners. This commission will review the basic salaries, allowances, and pensions of employees. Necessary adjustments will also be made to the Dearness Allowance (DA) to account for inflation, thereby increasing the real income of employees. The rising inflation has increased the financial burden on employees, and the new pay commission could provide significant relief.

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अगुवाई वाली केंद्र सरकार ने 8वें वेतन आयोग को मंजूरी दे दी है, जो 1 जनवरी 2026 से लागू माना जा रहा है। इस फैसले के बाद केंद्र सरकार के कर्मचारियों और पेंशनभोगियों में उत्साह का माहौल है, क्योंकि लंबे समय से सैलरी और पेंशन में संशोधन की मांग की जा रही थी। सरकार आमतौर पर हर दस साल में वेतन आयोग का गठन करती है, ताकि कर्मचारियों के वेतन, भत्तों और पेंशन को मौजूदा महंगाई और आर्थिक हालात के हिसाब से सुधारा जा सके। अभी तक 7वां वेतन आयोग लागू है, जो वर्ष 2016 में लागू हुआ था, और उसके बाद से वेतन संरचना में कोई बड़ा बदलाव नहीं हुआ है। 8वें वेतन आयोग के लागू होने से करीब 50 लाख केंद्रीय कर्मचारियों, जिनमें रक्षा कर्मी भी शामिल हैं, और लगभग 65 लाख सेवानिवृत्त पेंशनभोगियों को सीधा लाभ मिलने की उम्मीद है। यह आयोग कर्मचारियों की बेसिक सैलरी, भत्तों और पेंशन की दोबारा समीक्षा करेगा। इसके साथ ही महंगाई को ध्यान में रखते हुए महंगाई भत्ता यानी डीए में भी जरूरी समायोजन किया जाएगा, जिससे कर्मचारियों की वास्तविक आय बढ़ सके। मौजूदा समय में बढ़ती महंगाई के कारण कर्मचारियों पर आर्थिक दबाव बढ़ा है और ऐसे में नया वेतन आयोग बड़ी राहत साबित हो सकता है।
