Looking Back during Lockdown
Continuing on from my theme of looking back of the rugby memories I’ve collected over the years at Hilton College, I’ve decided to launch a series of videos profiling some of the standout players that played for the Hilton College 1stXV during this time. Today’s video:
Angus Curtis
Flyhalf
Hilton College 1stXV 2015, 2016 (Captain)
Sharks u18 Cravenweek 2016
Angus was a incredible all-rounder. Apart from his heroics on the rugby field as a tenacious flyhalf he also scored a considerable amount of runs for Hilton College 1stXI, KZN Inland and the Dolphin Cubs on the cricket field. He went on to play for Ireland u20 at the Junior Rugby World Cup and Ulster in the Heineken Champions Cup and Pro14.
Mr Greg Miller: “If you look in the dictionary under “tough” you will probably find his name. A great example of the modern flyhalf that understands when to take the ball to the line and when to sit back in the pocket. He loved to mix it in the physical stuff; either on attack or defence and he had a real good feel for the game. As a 10, he had the ability to control a game through technical skills and communication. The all-round flyhalf. Angus is the guy you put top of your list of people you would take to war.”
Mr Brad Macleod-Henderson: “Angus was an outstanding flyhalf who had the ability to take the ball flat and hence put pressure on defenders. When you combine this with an accurate passing game, strength and speed he certainly was a handful on attack. Defensively he was also very strong with his competitive spirit and bravery shining through. He was also very skilled at the breakdown, winning many turnovers. He was the team captain and goal kicker. He could pretty much do it all!”
