In today’s video we will be taking a first look at an exciting update coming to the OpenXR Toolkit at the end of the month, which features Fixed Foveated Rendering. This really does help to further boost VR performance in MSFS. So let’s take a first look at this new tool.

As Matt and the team develop the OpenXR Toolkit further, they are adding Fixed Foveated Rendering to the tool. I am currently testing an unreleased build and I can honestly say I am getting great results, giving a better performance with the same in-game settings and resolution.

With Fixed Foveated Rendering (or FFR), the resolution is adjusted so that the center region of the image is rendered at the highest resolution, to provide maximum clarity. The rest is rendered at a lower resolution, because your eyes are less sensitive to the quality of the image in the peripheral region, and also because the distortion created by the lenses in your VR headset will effectively "compress" pixels in those regions.
