Operation Valkyrie was a World War II resistance operation where Claus von Stauffenberg attempted to assassinate Hitler in July 1944. Despite severe war injuries, Stauffenberg managed to arm a bomb and place it close to Hitler during a military conference. An accidental intervention by Colonel Heinz Brandt, who moved the briefcase, resulted in Hitler surviving the explosion with relatively minor injuries, while Brandt and others were killed or injured. The failed assassination emphasized the extent of the German resistance to Hitler's regime.
