What Is the State Plane Coordinate System? | FE Exam Tips and Tricks | Passing the FE Exam
In this video, you will be learning about State Plane Coordinate System (SPCS), a topic in FE Civil Survey, Materials, Construction Engineering. The SPCS is a set of 124 geographic zones or coordinate systems that were originally developed in 1930s by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey.
It is designated for specific regions of the United States and assists in creating a comprehensive method for converting curvilinear coordinates to a 2D Cartesian coordinate system. This SPCS usefulness is due to the below major factors:
• It uses a simple Cartesian coordinate system to specify nothing and casting points rather than a normal complex spherical system. It is a database of calculated points which that permanently adjust for the curvature of the earth.
• It is highly accurate within each zone. When the SPCS is used, land surveying errors are less than 1:10000 which is sufficient for urban surveying accuracies. The accuracy declines rapidly once outside the SPCS zone.
In case of queries, get in touch with our experts towards the end of online live sessions. You can revisit the concepts through our recorded video sessions. #FECivil #SchoolofPE
