Adelbert Nongrum slams VPP leadership, calls suspension a pre planned move

Описание: Suspended VPP MLA from North Shillong, Adelbert Nongrum, alleged on Friday that his suspension was a premeditated move by the party leadership, who disliked having a dissenting voice within the VPP.

Speaking to reporters, Nongrum claimed the decision to suspend him had been made long ago but was delayed to avoid affecting the party’s performance in the recently concluded KHADC and JHADC elections. He interpreted his three-year suspension as an expulsion from the party. He stated that he had urged the Central Executive Committee (CEC) to expel him outright rather than issue a suspension or show-cause notice, which he refused to accept.

Nongrum emphasised that he joined the VPP based on principles, particularly the commitment to addressing the state’s reservation policy. He accused the party leadership of breaking their agreement and misleading the public on the issue. He criticised the VPP for only suggesting that job reservations be based on population demographics while failing to raise concerns about academic reservations and the retrospective application of the roster system. He also advocated for the consideration of creamy and non-creamy layers, arguing that wealthy individuals should not compete for reserved posts meant for low-income families.

Nongrum questioned whether he had done anything to tarnish the party’s image and expressed his distrust in the leadership. He also criticised the party’s handling of ticket distribution for the Autonomous District Council elections, arguing that the leadership acted against the party’s constitution. However, he clarified that he did not engage in anti-party activities and had publicly declared his support for VPP candidates before the elections.

Asserting that he will continue to raise public issues, Nongrum stated that he would announce his final stance on the VPP after Easter.
