"There's two main things going on at the moment one is the de-contamination and removal of burnt timber and materials from the ship and also off-site at a couple of different places we are consolidating and repairing some of the original timber that's come off i.e. the hull beams and some of the deck structures."

7. SOUNDBITE: (English) Kyle Abingdon, Conservation Technician:
"It involves stripping them down, taking the old paint off the old varnish, removing any rot and loose materials, and then building them up, placing in and scarfing in new teek or whatever the timber might be and also treating some of the external hull timbers."

12. SOUNDBITE: Stephen Archer, Communications Director, Cutty Sark Enterprises:
"In its day it was the Concorde of the sea and it was much regarded throughout the country. And in fact the racing of the tea back to the UK at that time was actually even gambled upon, so that also helped to capture people's imagination and maintain interest in the ship. But in later years when steam ships had taken over it was always remembered and people kept it and preserved it even in the turn of the century time and between the wars when this country was really poor people saved the ship."

14. SOUNDBITE: (English) Stephen Archer, Communications Director, Cutty Sark Enterprises:
"The effect of the fire is to put the project back by about nine months from the original plan, so instead of 2009 we should be open to the public again in 2010. When it is open it will be quite a different presentation the entire ship is going to be lifted 2 metres and you will be able to go underneath the ship and see that beautiful hull and you'll be able to have a party even underneath the ship if that's what you desire, but there'll be educational tours and conferences under there, and the whole ship will be weather-proofed around the outside as well. LEAD IN
It's nearly three months since the world's last remaining tea-clipper, known as the Cutty Sark, suffered severe damage during a fire.
The blaze caused millions of dollars worth of damage to the historic Victorian ship, which has been berthed in south-east London for half a century.
Fire officers still haven't established the cause of the fire, but conservationists have been working round the clock to restore the Cutty Sark back to its former glory.
STORYLINE
The charred planks of the Cutty Sark are being taken away one by one to a holding house in south east London where they will be cleaned up, restored and put back in their rightful place.
It's just the start of a long and delicate process which conservationists hope will be complete by 2010.
