Описание: When I learned that I would get to spend twelve amazing days in Japan back in January of 2019, I knew that there were many things I had to do while I was there. Among them, try their famous convenience store food, ride a bullet train, eat as many types of ramen as I could, stay at a traditional onsen, see Mount Fuji, and sample lots of authentic Japanese street food! And let’s just say Japan blew my expectations out the water! Come and join me on my epic trip through this magnificent island nation!

I’ve eaten street food in many countries around the world now, and Japan is right up there with the best of them! I couldn’t wait to try some more Japanese street foods for dinner, so my friend Shinichi from TabiEats took me to Tokyo’s most famous place to get amazing street food! Come along with us as we eat our way through Ameyo Market!

My boy Shinichi promised me lots of surprises on this street food tour and he did not disappoint at all! Ameyo Market was once a black market after the war, but has evolved into a street food market where you can try all sorts of tasty treats, and it’s not all Japanese! Here, you can also get Chinese and Korean food, as well as kebabs.

The first place we set out for was a place famous for their takoyaki, or octopus balls, but they were already sold out! So instead, we moved on to a nearby stall, where we got some seafood half-bowls, which were very reasonable at just 300 Yen each, or roughly $2.80 U.S. The bowl came with squid, tuna, salmon, salmon roe, minced tuna, and some sushi rice with soy sauce and wasabi on the side. The salmon was so fresh and buttery, it tasted like it came straight from the ocean, and there’s a reason why roe is called the gems of the sea! It was full of briny deliciousness, as was the squid, which was also chewier. The minced tuna blew my mind! I’d never had a seafood bowl this fresh before. The wasabi was really hot, though!

Next, we stopped at Arirang Hot Dogs, where I got a dish called an extremely popular and trendy dish called Potatorella, which is potato and mozzarella on a stick. I had it with a sweet chili sauce and garlic. It cost 480 Yen, or roughly $4.33 U.S. It was like a mozzarella stick with a thick, crunchy potato coating and lots of melted cheese inside! It’s heavy and a little sweet and a little spicy, and is a must-try!

Next, Shinichi took me to a Korean street food stall, where we picked up the most popular South Korean street food dish, tteok-bokki, which is stir-fried mochis in a spicy, sweet sauce called gochujang along with fish cakes, sausage, and green onion. It was gooey and delicious, and had some nice Asian spices in it. There weren’t any sausages in this one, but it was amazing. The gochujang sauce was almost like a sriracha or a spicy sweet-and-sour sauce. It was hot, but apparently the Korean version is even spicier! I loved it!

After that, we went across the street to a place with an endless menu for some oysters! You get 5 oysters for 1,000 Yen, or roughly $10 U.S. I tried my oyster with ponzu sauce and a squeeze of lemon. It was huge and incredibly fresh. The biggest oyster I’ve ever had!

Shinichi got some fish called shishamo, which have roe inside them! I had it with some mayo. The fish was nice and steamy, and wasn’t too salty or fishy. The fish are small enough that you can eat the bones with no problem, and the Japanese mayo with them was fantastic!

Lastly, we went to a sort of stand-up bar that sells 20 varieties of sake! I got a super dry one that was strong but light at the same time. You have to be careful with sake; just because it’s light doesn’t mean is isn’t super strong! Each glass is only 500 Yen each, or about $4.50.

Wow! What an incredible street food tour. While Shinichi’s favorite thing was the Potatorella, I couldn’t stop raving about that amazing seafood bowl! Talk about a fresh, amazing, Japanese meal!

I hope you enjoyed my epic nighttime street food tour at Ameyo Market in Tokyo! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. And please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. I will see you in the next travel food adventure!
