Today's South Africa Weather Update
A powerful cold front is set to sweep through South Africa over the long weekend, ushering in cold, wet, and windy conditions for many regions. Heavy rain is forecast for the South Coast, Garden Route, and parts of the Eastern Cape Province on Sunday, while snow is expected to fall over high-lying areas. By Monday, a cut-off low will intensify rainfall in the eastern provinces, with significant snowfall likely in the eastern Free State Province, Lesotho, southern Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, and the Mpumalanga Highveld Province—there's even a chance of light snow in south-eastern Gauteng. These conditions could cause travel disruptions and mountain-pass closures, so motorists should remain alert. Elsewhere, light rain and cool weather will linger in the wake of the front, particularly in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Mpumalanga Province, but most of the interior will enjoy dry, sunny, and comfortable weather. The South African Weather Service urges the public and small stock farmers to stay updated on warnings throughout the weekend, as disruptive rain, snow, and damaging winds could pose risks to safety, travel, and livestock.
