सबसे पहले हम आपको समझाते हैं कि आखिर स्मार्ट सिटी योजना है क्या। स्मार्ट सिटी मिशन मोदी सरकार की एक पहल है। इसकी मदद से शहरों में सूचना एवं डिजिटल टेक्नालॉजी, सार्वजनिक निजी भागीदारी के जरिए शहरों को बेहतर बनाना है। इस मिशन को देश के प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने 25 जून 2015 में लॉन्च किया था। इस मिशन को पूरा करने की जिम्मेदारी केंद्रीय शहरी विकास मंत्रालय की है। मिशन को सफल बनाने के लिए करोड़ों रुपये की फंडिंग दी गई है।

स्मार्ट सिटी मिशन के तहत 100 शहरों को शामिल किया गया है। इन शहरों को क्षेत्र विकास योजना के तहत अपग्रेड किया जाएगा। इस मिशन में देश के सभी राज्य शामिल हैं लेकिन पश्चिम बंगाल का नाम शामिल नहीं है। असल में पश्चिम बंगाल ने केंद्र और राज्य के बीच राजनीतिक मतभेद के चलते भाग नहीं लिया। वहीं 100 शहरों कि लिस्ट से महाराष्ट्र की मुंबई और नवी मुंबई ने भी नाम वापस ले लिया था।

100 cities have been included under the Smart City Mission. These cities will be upgraded under the Area Development Plan. All the states of the country are included in this mission but the name of West Bengal is not included. In fact, West Bengal did not participate due to political differences between the center and the state. At the same time, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai of Maharashtra had also withdrawn their names from the list of 100 cities.

स्मार्ट सिटी मिशन के तहत 100 में से पहले 22 शहर अपनी परियोजनाओं से जुड़े सभी काम पूरे कर लेंगे। वहीं बाकी 78 शहरों का काम भी अगले 3 से 4 महीने में पूरा कर लिया जाएगा। इन 22 शहरों में भोपाल, इंदौर, आगरा, वाराणसी, भुवनेश्वर, चेन्नई, कोयम्बटूर, इरोड, रांची, सलेम, सूरत, उदयपुर, विशाखापत्तनम, अहमदाबाद, काकीनाडा, पुणे, वेल्लोर, पिंपरी-चिंचवड़, मदुरै, अमरावती, तिरुचिरापल्ली और तंजावुर शामिल हैं।

These 22 cities include Bhopal, Indore, Agra, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Erode, Ranchi, Salem, Surat, Udaipur, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, Kakinada, Pune, Vellore, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Madurai, Amaravati, Tiruchirappalli and Thanjavur.
