American Airlines pilots have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike authorization vote, with 99% of those who voted supporting the move. Negotiations between the pilots' union, the Allied Pilots Association, and American Airlines are ongoing, with pilots seeking not just better pay but also improved scheduling to enhance efficiency and reduce delays. However, a strike is not guaranteed, as US federal law requires the approval of a mediation board or the US president and Congress before any airline union can proceed with a strike. Nonetheless, the Allied Pilots Association president, Ed Sicher, has made it clear that their pilots will not be deterred and will strike if necessary to secure the industry-leading contract they deserve. American Airlines spokesperson Curtis Blessing has said that the company respects the message of the voting results and remains focused on reaching an agreement that the pilots deserve.
