Описание: The June 2020 historical aviation document release from patreon.com/retromechanix is now available! It features 101 pages of material with 95 images; subjects include the following:

Snead & Company XLRH-1— The Snead & Company XLRH-1 was a large twin-hull amphibious glider designed to carry 24 troops; it was built primarily of wood and based on a Naval Aircraft Factory design. Two prototypes and a static test airframe were ordered by the Navy in April 1942. The 71 photos presented here show both the mock-up and the actual gliders under construction. A detailed history of the XLRH-1 can be found in Bill Norton's excellent American Military Gliders of World War II , which also has a three-view of the glider on page 91. The XLRH-1 was never completed, being cancelled in November 1942 due to intractable problems with the glider's weight, schedule, cost, and other issues.

Bureau of Aeronautics Aviation Design Research Studies & NACA—This material covers various internal jet and turboprop aircraft studies undertaken by the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics in late WW II. Most of the correspondence concerns A.D.R. 27, a modular wind tunnel research model designed to test various air intake and ducting arrangements for these types of aircraft. This 42 page PDF includes 15 drawings and illustrations, including 7 drawings specially restored for this release.

Early Douglas Aircraft Blueprints — A 4 page PDF with 9 blueprints of early Douglas aircraft designs of the 1920's, built and unbuilt. Subjects include variants of the O-2 observation aircraft, DT torpedo bomber, and T2D torpedo bomber, among others.

Retromechanix is scanning, restoring and sharing rare aerospace photos, illustrations and documents covering lesser known American aircraft from the first half of the 20th century, such as forgotten prototypes and secret projects which remained on the drawing board. These documents originate from various US government repositories, such as The National Archives, The Naval History and Heritage Command, The Air Force Historical Research Agency, and other institutions. We believe that the bulk of the collection has not been published before.

Every month, we are uploading at least 100 pages of material in PDF format. Previews of these documents can be viewed here on our Youtube channel. Patreon subscribers may choose to download the documents with photos and drawings reproduced at 150 dpi or 300 dpi, depending upon your subscription tier. By the end of the project, we estimate that subscribers will have access to an archive of over 20,000 pages of primary documents shedding light on secret aircraft projects, prototypes, and lesser known aspects of aerospace history.
