In a big break for the JDS, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has offered JDS candidate HD Kumaraswamy the post of the Chief Minister and extended the party's external support. In subsequent rounds of counting, CM Siddaramaiah lost Chamundeshwari and won Badami, and his son Yathindra won Varuna by 50,000 votes. In an effort to beat BJP's 106 seats, the Congress has offered its external support to the JDS.
