JD Vance sparks tension by announcing Greenland visit amid annexation fears

United States Vice President JD Vance has announced he will be visiting Greenland alongside his wife Usha Vance.
The two are set to visit Greenland this week to discuss and assess security issues in Greenland that affect both the region and America.
Vice President Vance said he will be visiting some of America’s guardians in the space force on the northwest coast of Greenland, as well as checking out the country’s security.
“A lot of other countries have threatened Greenland, have threatened to use its territories and waterways to threaten the United States, to threaten Canada,” Vance said.
“Speaking for President Trump, we want to reinvigorate the security of the Greenland people.
“Leaders in both America and in Denmark I think, ignored Greenland for far too long, that’s been bad for Greenland; it’s also been bad for the security of the entire world.
“We think we can take things in a different direction, so I’m going to check it out.”
Greenland’s leaders have blasted the upcoming trip following President Donald Trump’s outspoken desire to control the country.
Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede labelled the visit a “provocation” and “highly aggressive”.
President Trump has insisted the planned visit to Greenland by US officials is “purely friendship”.
