Описание: The Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway (W&LLR) is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow-gauge heritage railway in Powys, Wales. The line is around 8.5 miles (13.7 km) long and runs westwards from the town of Welshpool via Castle Caereinion to the village of Llanfair Caereinion. Because of the 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) gauge, unusual for British narrow-gauge railways, locomotives and rolling stock to supplement the originals have had to be obtained from sources around the world including Austria and Taiwan. A major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund permitted restoration of both original locomotives together with several coaches and original wagons, and provision of new workshop facilities, ready for the line's centenary. W&LLR uses Grondana coupling. A Grondana coupling is a type of railway coupling that features a central buffer and a screw coupling mechanism to link two vehicles together. It is a combination of a buffer, which handles vertical and lateral forces, and a screw coupling, which provides the mechanical strength to pull the train. This system was historically used on some narrow-gauge and light railways. Since many of W&LLR's rolling stocks come from Sierra Leone, where railway rolling stocks’ couplers also use Grondana coupling, W&LLR had been purchasing its couplings from the Sierra Leone Railway until it ceased operations in the 1970s, at which point W&LLR switched to manufacturing its own.
