Today, we mourn the loss of a true hero, Commander Mavela Mabuza, a steadfast fighter for justice and freedom. As a former MK operative and unit leader of the Self-Defense Units in Soweto, he fearlessly stood against the oppressive forces of Apartheid and defended his community with unwavering courage.

Commander Mabuza's commitment to the struggle against Apartheid came at great personal cost. He bore the scars of Apartheid's torture, a brutal reminder of the sacrifices he made for the liberation of our people. It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge his passing due to those very wounds.

His dedication to the ANC, Black Consciousness, Mass Democratic Movements, and the cause of freedom was profound, and he believed in a brighter future for all South Africans. Yet, it is with deep sadness that we recognize the pain he carried in his later years as he felt neglected by the very movement he had given so much for.

Let us remember and honor Commander Mabuza's legacy by ensuring that his sacrifices are never forgotten. Let us work together to uphold the principles he fought for, to ensure justice, equality, and care for our struggle and Liberation War Veterans. May his memory inspire us to renew our commitment to building a better society for all.
