What happens if you shut down or lose connection to DJI Spark's controller in mid-flight? In this video, we go over Return to Home (RTH) feature of the DJI Spark and what happens if you turn a drone controller off in flight or your Spark loses connection with its controller.

This turned into a thorough 2 part series test where I start to discover some interesting characteristics of the DJI Spark’s RTH Return to Home. This test shows the capabilities and limitations of the Return to Home (RTH) feature that is integral to the Spark. As you will see, it did not work flawlessly landing meters away from original takeoff location.
I review altitude settings used as well as different modes in the DJIGo4 app and test the physical Return to Home button on the controller too. The obstacle avoidance system is activated in every Intelligent Flight Mode including all ActiveTrack modes. An unprotected drone could hit obstacles during long distance flight or when descending from an inadequate height in Return to Home mode. The Spark uses Flight Autonomy technology to sense obstacles and allows the Spark to bypass them.
I test what happens if controller losses connection to the Spark and I also turn the controller completely off mid-flight just to see what the drone will do.

There are 3 ways to activate DJI Mavic Pro's Return to Home RTH feature. The first way is to activate RTH via Phone or Tablet App DJI Go4 App, select the H with an arrow and slide the slider to Return to Home. Second is to press the Return to Home button directly on the controller itself, this will active return to home and audible beeps will be heard. Third and most nerve wracking is lost connection to the Spark from the Controller ie.... Lost connection, dead battery on the controller, etc.... We test all 3 in this video.
