Elsha, Threefold Master. A commander that has the ability of a Voltron commander, but can additionally build an army of Monks! The deck has a Monk theme and utilizes Cantrip style spells to Trigger Prowess on your creatures and swing in for massive damage. Bracket 3. Power Level 7.
Review of the 100 cards in an Elsha, Threefold Master (EDH) Deck. Glass cannon style deck that can pop off with massive attacks very quickly. Able to recover more quickly than typical Voltron commanders.
General Gameplay:
• Mulligan: Want a fetchland to get a Triome, Surveil, or shock land. Very important to play commander on turn 3 with the 3 colored pips. Helps if you have a mana rock and maybe a protection spell and commander turn 3, but would be rare. 2 Lands risky. 3 lands preferred.
• Hit with your commander and make some Monks! Then swing on following turns, holding back mana to cast instants during combat to increase the prowess bonus and take out smaller creatures or deal significant damage to opponents.
• If your commander gets removed you can focus on attacking and pumping the monks until you build up some other mana rocks, lands, or card engine cards.
Strengths:
• Can be very explosive if left unchecked. You can usually make four Monks than another 4 to 7 the next turn.
• The Theme is to cast cantrips, get your commander higher in power, and then unlike other decks - you replace the cards used with the cantrip spells, and can do it again next turn!
• If you have good Draws, you can draw into something that draws for each instant and sorcery spell cast, and then it just keeps steam rolling.
• Later game, you can usually make your commander have evasion or unblockable to still get in for hits even when opponents have larger creatures.
Weaknesses:
• If your commander gets hit with something it can be difficult to come back or remove an ability destroying Aura on her.
• If opponents play cards like no mercy or propaganda type enchantments, it can slow down your ability to attack
• This Deck cannot go to toe with another token deck or counters deck that makes very big creatures. It is more about explosive speed, glass cannon style. You rarely get your creatures past three or four power.
• Although there are many cantrips, the deck lacks singular large draw spells to refill your hand. Windfall, blue sun's Zenith, and pull from tomorrow could work, but they throw off the general strategy of the deck and only work if you make it to late game. I tried experimenting with lower cost, draw a few, type cards such as Eagle vision which is the one I settled on. Deck feels like it plays better with the focus on the cantrip theme. The big card raw cards are the creatures that give you a benefit when you cast spells.
