Yesterday was TPUSA’s annual AmericaFest conference.
It had lots of speakers, including new CEO Erika Kirk who announced the organization would be supporting Vice President JD Vance for a 2028 presidential run.
She said:
“We are going to get my husband’s friend JD Vance elected for 48 in the most resounding way possible.”
Vance hasn’t officially announced a run for 2028.
But there is widespread speculation he’ll do it.
Others in the Republicans party support a theoretical Vance run, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
But it was the showdown between Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro that really stood out.
Between the two there were competing pushes for how the future of conservatism in America should look.
Shapiro spoke first, and his general argument was that the conservative movement was full of grifters.
He started by saying:
“Today I want to talk about the future of the country and the future of this country- this amazing country - relies on the future of the conservative movement. It relies on what TPUSA defines as its core missions: Freedom, free markets, and limited government.”
He then went on to add:
“But today I want to talk about something even more important. How to discern those attempting to speak truth from frauds and grifters.”
Shapiro laid out how the information landscape today is fundamentally different than in the past.
News is no longer “gatekept” by legacy media and now way more people have huge influence across the internet.
That drawback is an “anarchic” news environment and that:
“So why does that matter? Well because today the conservative movement is in serious danger not just from the Left that all too often excuses everything up to and including murder. The conservative movement is also in danger from charlatans who claim to speak in the name of principle but actually traffic in conspiracism and dishonesty. Who offers nothing but bile and despair… These people are frauds and grifters and don’t deserve your time.”
Shapiro then spends a lot of time laying out “Five Duties” influential figures in the movement have.
