Right now Washington is fighting over ACA subsidies expiring in January. One has to wonder why they have waited to the last minute to address this. While needed in the short term, subsidies to the insurance companies are essentially band-aids on a broken system.
Here is what nobody is talking about: employer-based health insurance was designed in 1943 in response to World War II wage controls. It was never meant to last 80 years.

Now, with the growth of AI, 40% of all jobs could be impacted by 2030. When your healthcare is tied to your employer and your job disappears—what then?
Americans are spending $5 trillion a year on healthcare, with 30% wasted on insurance bureaucracy. In District 2, Modoc County patients drive hours for specialists. In rural Sonoma County, 30% of residents can't access basic care.

We need healthcare that covers people, not positions. For example, we can Expand Federally Qualified Health Centers like Open Door, serving 65,000 across Humboldt and Del Norte counties, recognized as National Quality Leaders. They focus on prevention, treat everyone regardless of employment or ability to pay, and cut administrative waste.

This is bigger than the ACA. Our kids deserve healthcare built for the future, not the 1940s. This is a generational challenge that Washington and Sacramento have ignored for too long. you deserve a healthcare system built on prevention and community care, not bureaucracy.
