Inefficiency of coniferous precipitation in landing pits
A common recommendation to add coniferous precipitation to planting pits for acid-loving plants (hydrangea, blueberries, rhododendrons) is ineffective and often useless.
Reasons why coniferous precipitation is not recommended to be buried in the soil:
• No acidification. Spent coniferous precipitation, unlike fresh needles, practically does not affect the pH of the soil and does not contribute to its acidification.
• Slow decomposition and risk of rotting. Coniferous fallout decomposes extremely slowly, especially when sealed in deep layers of soil. In conditions of lack of oxygen and low activity of microorganisms (for example, in autumn or with excess precipitation), this can lead to the formation of rot and negatively affect the root system of plants.
• Death of microorganisms. The top layer of soil under conifers contains specific microorganisms adapted to aerobic conditions.
