Hardly did any other factor leave its imprint on Indian Society so deeply as Bhati Movement and Caste System did. So, in this lecture, the multi-dimensional aspects of Bhaktism have been brought under the purview.
Highlights of the lecture:
The biggest cultural movement in India starting from nearly 2nd Century till today.
It was not monolithic, but rather polyphonic in tone and expression.
It was having certain common characteristics with local variations.
Apart from being a religious movement, it worked as a strong social and cultural movement as well.
Surprisingly, it influenced even political values of India based on the concept of Hero Worship.
If someone is able to perceive Bhaktism in its totality, he would develop a proper understanding of Indian Culture as well.
In Civil Services exam, the topic is important from the perspective of Mains and Pre both.

शायद ही किसी अन्य कारक ने इंडियन सोसाइटी पर इतनी गहराई से अपनी छाप नही छोड़ी थी जितनी भक्ति आंदोलन और जाति व्यवस्था ने छोड़ी थी। तो, इस व्याख्यान में, भक्तिवाद के बहुआयामी पहलुओं को दायरे में लाया गया है।
व्याख्यान की मुख्य विशेषताएं:
भारत में सबसे बड़ा सांस्कृतिक आंदोलन था। यह लगभग दूसरी शताब्दी से शुरू होकर वर्त्तमान युग तक आता है ।
यह एकाश्म नहीं था, बल्कि बहुस्वरित (poliphronic) था।
भक्ति आंदोलन की कुछ सामान्य विषेशताओं के साथ साथ इसपर स्थानीय तत्वों का प्रभाव बना हुआ था ।
एक धार्मिक आंदोलन होने के साथ साथ यह एक मजबूत सामाजिक और सांस्कृतिक आंदोलन भी सिद्ध हुआ।
आश्चर्य का विषय यह है कि इसने समकालीन राजनीति पर भी अपना प्रभाव छोड़ा है जो वीर पूजा (hero worship) के रूप में व्यक्त होता है ।
यदि कोई समग्रता में भक्तिवाद को समझने में सक्षम है, तो वह भारतीय संस्कृति की उचित समझ विकसित कर सकेगा।
सिविल सेवा परीक्षा में यह topic Preliminary और Mains परीक्षा दोनों के दृष्टिकोण से महत्वपूर्ण है।
