Claret Lemonade is a delicious drink with English roots, similar to Spanish sangria. It's a combination of red wine an the elements of lemonade. It makes a perfect refresher for a warm summer evening.

Claret Lemonade gets a mention in the lyric to the song "Imagine" from the Rodgers and Hart musical BABES IN ARMS. The show opened on Broadway in 1937 and has a magnificent score which includes the songs' "I Wish I Were in Love Again," "Johnny One Note," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "My Funny Valentine," and "Where or When." It's the quintessential "hey kids, let's put on a show" musical. The plot revolves around a group of kids putting on a show to keep themselves out of trouble

The show was made into the 1939 MGM film that starred Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland but it used very little of the plot or score of the Broadway show because the script used on stage had social and political overtones.
