🇯🇵 Retiring in Japan: Day 73 – Our First DIY Task as Homeowners in Japan

Описание: 🏡 Our first real #DIY project in our new (old) home is officially complete!

Today, Yumiko and I cleared out the 洗面所 (senmenjo)—the laundry and changing area—in preparation for our Japanese bath remodel next month. This marks not only our first renovation task but also the first time we’ve ever tackled a home improvement project on our own. 🛠️✨

🔹 Our Process:
✅ We chose a local home center 🏪 and found a store manager who was both knowledgeable and helpful.
✅ We explained our plans, and he guided us in selecting the right tools and materials.
✅ Over two days, we removed the old cabinets, took out the vanity, and stripped the wallpaper down to the drywall.

Now, the space is ready for its transformation into a fresh, modern senmenjo, fitting the style of a traditional Japanese home. But the biggest success?

💡 We gained the confidence that we can take on the challenges of our #AkiyaLife and manage this home renovation—at least in part—on our own!

One small project down, many more to go! 🔨🏡
