Learn more about the music:
‘Drums’ Sivamani is famous for his command of many different percussion instruments - kit, ghatam, kanjira, darbuka, octoban, udukai, and more. His exuberant, eclectic style was never rooted in classical music, instead drawing ideas from all directions from the start - he was inspired by jazz virtuosos such as Billy Cobham as much as Carnatic mridangam masters. His unique approach led A.R. Rahman to hire him as his main percussionist, and he also plays with sitarist Niladri Kumar in the ‘Asia Electrik’ fusion group. He has a long association with the Chennai Super Kings IPL cricket team.
