Léon Bonnat, one of the most popular artists and Instructors of the French atelier system. His drawing skills are exceptional and he passed along his gifted approach to painting to many others, Students from America were able to take full advantage of his teaching in that he spoke English quite well and Spanish and Italian. Bonnat was able to amass a large collection of artworks during his lifetime and contributed them to his beloved Bayonne in the Museum dedicated in his honor. He never married but was one of the top portrait artists of his day. A very remarkable artist indeed.
