03 - Understanding Developmental Trauma - The Trust Survival Style - NARM

Описание: In this video, Dr. May discusses the developmental origins and adult presentation of Trust Survival Style. This develops as an adaptation to growing up with caregivers who need you to be who they want you to be to fulfill their needs and boost their egos. As a result, you were not able to TRUST that the key people in your life had your best interests at heart and that it was safe to be your true self. To adapt, you learned to disconnect from your authentic self and adopt a false self. You become turned off by vulnerability and dependency and gravitated toward control and dominance. The Trust Survival Style has some overlap with narcissism, antisocial personality and anxious-avoidant attachment features.

Toward the end, several healing strategies and treatment suggestions are offered.

The concept of the Five Survival Styles was introduced by Dr. Laurence Heller in his book Healing Developmental Trauma, and forms a central part of the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM®).
