Cultivating Unity, Revelation

We talked yesterday about ordinances and unity. If you understand that, then you can see why God is building temples across the earth. So that His covenant family can be gathered in unity. We need to choose to bind ourselves to a higher being. It is the only way.

President Eyring has said, “We can cultivate unity by utilizing three principles, revelation, humility (“Pride is the great enemy of unity”) and speaking well of each other. (President Henry B. Eyring, Our Hearts Knit together as one, CR 10/18)

Revelation is the only way we can know how to follow the will of the Lord together. It requires light from above. The Holy Ghost will testify to our hearts, and the hearts of those gathered around with us, what He would have us do. And it is by keeping His commandments (together), that we can have our hearts knit.

In the beginning, I think, if we are honest with ourselves, we have difficult time recognizing and responding to revelation. But it is so vital that we get baptized and keep the priesthood injunction to receive the Holy Ghost. He is always there.

Why is this so important? My family and friends, physical and spiritual tempests are a part of life on the earth, of the time prior to His Second Coming, the Savior predicted days of great tribulation. He said, “There shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places” (Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:29).

Compounding such tribulation is the increasing darkness and deception that surround us. As Jesus told His disciples, “Iniquity shall abound” before His return (Joseph Smith—Matthew 1:30).

Satan has marshaled his forces and is raging against the work of the Lord and those of us engaged in it. He is raging in our families. Because of the increasing dangers we face, our need for divine guidance has never been greater, and our efforts to hear the voice of Jesus Christ—our Mediator, Savior, and Redeemer—have never been more urgent.

My family and friends, the Lord is ready to reveal His mind to us. That is one of and will be one of His greatest blessings to us.

In our day, He has promised, “If thou shalt ask, thou shalt receive revelation upon revelation, knowledge upon knowledge” (Doctrine and Covenants 42:61). And it comes in many forms and from many authorized people.

Starting tomorrow, we will spend some time on individual revelation and unity, and then I want to spend time on family, quorum, class revelation and unity. See you tomorrow.
