Q1. Identify the voice of poetry of Earth in the poem. How does keats establish its continuity through these voices? (2+4)

A1. In keats's sonnet, the different and unheard of voice of nature simply mesmerize us. The voices of poetry of the Earth in the poem are of the grasshopper and cricket.

∆ In the octave, he brings into focus the merry trilling of a grasshopper. It keeps going the ceaseless melody of nature when the searing summer silences the song Star. Again in the sestet the frosty silence of a solitary winter evening seems to warm up with the steady chrip of a cricket. The grasshopper and the cricket Awaken the apparently dead music of nature during the cycle change of season. Thus, the continuity of poetry of earth is established through their voices in keats sonnet.

A2. In keats sonnet 'The poetry of Earth' 'he' refers to the the ecstatic grasshopper in summer.

∆ The dead silence of the sun- baked new mown meadows is broken by the merry chirping of the grasshopper. It keeps flitting about the hedge feasting on the abundant pleasure of summer. His ecstatic voice seems to sing the song of summer in ever increasing pitch. Even when he is tired out with fun, he rest beneath some charming weed to enjoy again the summer luxury with renewed energy. So keats feels that the euphoric grasshopper never fails settled with this summer enjoyment.
