Coca-Cola sponsored eight cars. Pepsi only needed one.
In one of NASCAR’s boldest marketing showdowns, the 2004 Pepsi 400 became more than just a race, it was a statement. Jeff Gordon started from the pole in the #24 Pepsi Billion Dollar Game Chevy, and despite Coca-Cola’s ambush promotion of their new “C2” brand, Gordon held his line, led 61 laps, and won the race.
The drama? Real.
The pressure? Immense.
The win? Legendary.
This race was Gordon’s fourth of the season and his second straight win after Infineon. And it proved once again why Hendrick Motorsports was a powerhouse, all four HMS cars finished in the top 10. Jimmie Johnson gave Gordon the push he needed to clear Tony Stewart and Dale Jr. in the final laps… and from there, it was all #24.
Relive the race that silenced the noise, shook up the sponsor war, and put Pepsi right where it belonged, in Victory Lane.
