Ulakkai Aruvi, one of the fascinating waterfalls in Kanyakumari, can be accessed with little effort even by a non-seasoned trekker. It is a mini waterfall about 17 km from Nagercoil and 35 km from Kanyakumari. One can reach the foot of the hill via Azhagiapandipuram by 2 or 4 wheeler and from there about 2 km uphill on foot. The ideal time for visiting the waterfall is soon after the monsoons, South East & North West, as on other months there will be too little flow of water. The water in the pool formed by the fall of water is quite cold and so refreshing that once one plunges onto it he/she won't like to come out. Viewed from a distance it looks a long wooden pestle (in Tamil 'Ulakkai'). Hence the name. As there is no shop or restaurant near the fall one has to carry some snacks. Of course, prior permission is mandatory from the Forest Department to enter into the forest
