Breathe is a composition for solo piano that came to me during the lowest point of my life. I considering giving up music all together and decided to go to the piano and just play. In that moment, I came up with a piano progression that made me feel at peace and wrote the song around this progression. The composition is also influenced by the music of Jóhann Jóhannsson and Ólafur Arnalds, two Icelandic composers who I’ve listened to and have influenced my music for years. Breathe is dedicated to my sisters, Aliyah & Kiana, for encouraging me to continue music and to not give up. This piece is just a reminder to me, and I hope to others, that when you want to give up, to take a second to breathe.
