Note - Working on some better graphics for this channel, these will have to do for now. Trying to keep up the consistency of videos but they should get better quality wise over time. Thanks for watching!
// Video Overview //
Now that I've made a video about both motion blur and depth of field in Redshift, I thought it would be a good idea to go over best practices for applying them to your scene together.
When applying motion blur and depth of field it is best to use the same method of application. If you're going to use motion vectors for post motion blur than you should use a depth pass for depth of field.
If you're going to render your 3D with depth of field then you should also apply motion blur in render.
Most likely the render with AOVs will process faster as the depth of field in render usually takes more samples to clean up. Though ultimately the speed increase comes at the cost of quality. Including the two effects in render will result in a cleaner look, but applying them with AOVs does allow for a lot of flexibility in post.
So think to yourself. Do I have time to re-render this sequence? Will the client have a lot of notes regarding the look? If so maybe the flexibility of the AOVs is more important. Or perhaps you have a lot of time and you'd rather have a nicer looking shot, then adding them both into the render will be the way to go.
