Hundreds of copies of the 'worst video game ever' dug up in New Mexico desert

Documentary filmmakers in New Mexico have unearthed a hoard of discarded Atari video games that had been buried in a landfill southeast of Albuquerque.The dig was organised by Microsoft's Xbox Entertainment Studios in the hopes of uncovering the unsold cartridges of the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial video game , which is often considered to be the worst game ever made. The E.T. game has been partially blamed with the collapse of the video game industry in the early 1980s. After its critical and commercial flop Atari was reportedly lumped with most of the 5 million cartridges, and is said to have buried them in the New Mexico desert in the middle of the night. The first batch of cartridges were uncovered after three hours of digging, but the quantity that have actually been buried remains a mystery that the documentary aims to unravel.
