Liza Minnelli was a special guest at Austrian entertainer Peter Alexander's Christmas show in Vienna in 1995. More than 10,000 people were in the hall and millions in front of their TV sets in Austria, South Tyrol in Italy, Switzerland and Germany. It later turned out that this was Alexander's last big TV show after a five-decade career as a singer, actor and comedian. He was the only German-speaking singer whose productions were on the German charts for six decades.
Although people often tried to persuade him to return to the stage, he withdrew completely in his last years and firmly resisted the many offers. Only on his 80th birthday could he be persuaded to give an adress of a few minutes, which was broadcast from his home. To the surprise of many, it turned out that he had hardly lost any of his wit and talent.
He died 2011 in his beloved hometown Vienna.
