On February 17, 1969, Braniff International unveiled its exciting new Flaunt It Campaign, which featured television commercials starring a virtual cavalcade of some of Hollywood's biggest stars and other famous celebrities. Designed by the company's new advertising firm, Lois, Holland, and Callaway of New York City, the campaign was highly successful and further instilled Braniff's chic and sophisticated image in the minds of the public.
The tv spots included the pairing of two uniquely different celebrities with nothing in common except the fact that they flew Braniff. The two stars are sitting on a Braniff First Class set of two seats that are upholstered in vibrant Alexander Girard red fabric by Herman Miller. The two stars discuss an array of topics and then the announcer breaks in and states "They like to be on time. Thanks for flying Braniff, folks." One of the two stars ends the commercial by stating the Flaunt It slogan. Pairings included, Mickey Rooney and Rex Reed; Andy Warhol and Sonny Liston; Bennet Serf and Ethel Merman: Hermione Gingold and George Raft; Mickey Spillane and Marianne Moore; Whitey Ford and Salvador Dali and Satchel Paige and Dean Martin, Jr.
The commercials were highly popular and well received as was the impressive print advertising that added an additional group of celebrities. The ads were placed in the top rated national magazines including The New Yorker, Saturday Review, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Time, Business Week, and Esquire among other beginning in the month of March 1969. The corresponding newspaper ads were placed in the same 23 markets as the television commercials.
