1. Over the past two days, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has held phone calls with the foreign ministers of Kuwait, Bahrain, Pakistan and Qatar to exchange views on the situation in Iran. However, at the same time, regional tensions have continued to intensify, and the risk of the conflict escalating and spilling over is increasing. Could you further introduce China’s position and its efforts to promote de-escalation and ease tensions? How does China view the next stage of development in the situation?

Recently, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has continued to engage in diplomatic mediation on the situation in Iran, once again holding phone conversations with foreign ministers of regional countries, striving to promote peace, stop the fighting, and ease tensions.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out that the current conflict is a war that should not have happened and benefits no one. The US and Israel launched military strikes against Iran without authorization from the United Nations while Iran-U.S. negotiations were still underway, clearly violating international law. The sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of all countries should be respected.
China does not agree with the attacks on Gulf countries and condemns all indiscriminate attacks against civilians and non-military targets. The urgent priority is to immediately stop military operations and prevent the flames of war from spreading further. The way to break the deadlock is to return to dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible and strive to restore peace. The fundamental solution is for all parties to jointly return to the track of observing international law and the basic norms governing international relations.
From the first day the conflict broke out, China clearly called for a ceasefire and an end to hostilities, a return to dialogue and negotiations, and adherence to a political solution. The Chinese government’s special envoy on the Middle East issue is currently traveling across the region.
As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a sincere friend of Middle Eastern countries, China will not stop its efforts for peace, nor will it cease its voice in upholding fairness and justice. We will continue to strengthen communication with all relevant parties, including the parties to the conflict, and play a constructive role in easing the situation and restoring peace.

2. The US said it had struck what it said was an Iranian boat being used to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Does China have any comment on the potential mining of the Strait? Has China had any talks with Iran on keeping the Strait safe?

We are deeply concerned about the continued tensions in the Middle East. The pressing priority for all relevant parties is to immediately stop military operations, return to the track of dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible, and avoid further escalation and deterioration of the situation.

3. Regarding the shuttle diplomacy by the Chinese special envoy Zhai Jun and the mediation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, is this particular diplomacy focused on the Gulf region, or will it be extended to Israel, and the US as well?


4. Is the Chinese government also in touch with the US as part of these diplomatic efforts?
