Welcome to 針供養 – Hari Kuyō—a long-form hōgaku Japanese ambient journey inspired by the winter ritual of gratitude for worn needles and the work they carried through the year.
Hari Kuyō is a quiet ceremony held in temples across Japan. Old needles are placed into soft tofu or konnyaku, symbolizing rest after a year of service. It is a moment of reflection, humility, and appreciation—a gentle pause in the deep of winter. Though the world remains cold, the ritual marks a subtle emotional shift toward renewal.
This mix follows that arc. The thumbnail shows a quiet winter temple interior with a small offering tray—a soft, warm light in the stillness. The journey begins with the two Setsubun-themed tracks from "For Good Fortune," forming a ceremonial doorway into the Hari Kuyō atmosphere. From there, the mix moves through memory, gratitude, stillness, and release.
Ten tracks form one continuous winter-quiet meditation. After the full sequence plays once, the entire set loops again, creating an extended space for deep focus, reading, study, meditation, or quiet evening reflection.
Traditional instruments throughout: shakuhachi, koto, shamisen, biwa, rin bell, soft taiko. Each track carries a piece of winter calm and the gentle spirit of appreciation.
